The animals sounds are great but unfortunately you can use any piece (even the incorrect piece) to activate any of the sounds. This can be a bit confusing. There is no incentive to get the right piece in the right puzzle place.

We love M & D products and this puzzle is another one we (and our child) love to play with. The sound is great and it doesn't randomly "sound off" like another sound puzzle we have does (farm animals). All of the sound puzzles we own have good sound, not at all like some of the poorer reviews have complained about.

Awful Awful Awful! I am a teacher and was uphauled by the poor educational value this puzzle has. Let me go through the points:
1. the sound quality is terrible, and the sounds don't even sound like animals. We got the zoo animals, transportation and farm animals. When I wasn't looking I couldn't even match one of the animals sound to the animal name. I can't imagine that it would be that challenging to make a duck sound like a duck.
2. The sensors don't always work and when they do it's at an inapropriate time. I'll be in the other room making dinner and all of a sudden the pig (or was it a pig?) will begin squaking
3. The puzzle pieces don't quite fit correctly, so this can be frustrating for the child
So, overall I wouldn't waste your money. It's not your typical nice Melissa and Doug quality. Sad, very sad.

Overall, nice puzzle. My 21 month-old is just learning, so it's challenging for her. Although it's light sensitive, ours makes noise randomly even with all the pieces in...kinda creepy sometimes!

My daughter had a hard time learning to do puzzles and this was perfect for her as a baby! Each animal makes a different noise when you put the piece in the correct spot, to motivate kids to keep trying. I LOVE this puzzle!
